Stylish hats and fabulous fashion, a sumptuous four-course lunch, delicious wines, a gorgeous setting in Sonoma Valley, and a high-spirited live auction featuring spa packages and getaways: does this sound like something your mother, sister, or aunt, might enjoy as a treat for Mother’s Day? Who wouldn’t?
This fabulous all-in-one package is happening at the Meals on Wheels Derby Day, scheduled for Saturday, May 7, at Chateau St. Jean Winery in Glen Ellen. It’s a gala event, recreating the pageantry of the Kentucky Derby, while benefiting Council on Aging’s Meals on Wheels.
The main event will take place under a beautiful Sperry tent on the grand lawn at Chateau St. Jean with a four-course lunch by some of Sonoma County’s most talented chefs.
In honor of Council on Aging’s 50th anniversary celebration during 2016, Derby Day guests are being encouraged to arrive in either vintage or contemporary Derby Day attire that recalls the hats and fashions worn by racegoers at Churchill Downs today—or in past eras.
And of course, the more outrageous the hat, the more likely the wearer is to receive recognition from the audience and the panel of judges who award prizes for the “best dressed” and “most creative” outfits. Everyone who so chooses gets a chance to strut down the catwalk to show off their outfits in an informal fashion show.
It’s an afternoon of fun you can share with that special woman (or women!) in your life while contributing to a good cause. Proceeds from Derby Day benefit Meals on Wheels, which delivers more than 290,000 meals per year to frail, home-bound seniors who might otherwise go without. Last year, the event raised more than $350,000 for the program.
Tickets at $250 each, or $2,500 for a table of 10, are now on sale. For more details go to www.CouncilonAging.com/DerbyDay.
