Do You Need a Lawyer? The Council on Aging offers legal referrals for Sonoma County residents who are 60 years old and older through a panel of elder law attorneys who are experienced and interested in working with seniors. You can obtain an initial half-hour consultation for $30.00. If you retain the attorney for additional services, fee charged will be at the attorney’s usual rate which you will negotiate directly with the attorney. No consultation fee will be charged for personal injury cases or Social Security appeals. |
The Council on Aging Lawyer Referral Service is a public service operating under the management and control of the Council on Aging, a non-profit corporation. The Lawyer Referral Service has been certified by the California State Bar (Certificate No. #0111). This means that our service must meet high standards for quality and fairness.
The purpose of The Lawyer Referral Service is to provide the Sonoma County senior community with increased access to our legal system by providing a way for a person to be referred to a member of the California State Bar.
For a fee of $40.00 you get an initial half-hour consultation with an attorney who is interested in elder law and competent to handle your particular legal problem. These are not Legal Aid Attorneys. If you decide to retain the attorney for additional services, additional fees will be at the attorney’s normal rate. Fees should be discussed during the initial consultation.
Our member attorneys must meet strict requirements to serve on our Elder Law Panel and they must enjoy working with senior clients. In addition, they must carry malpractice insurance and be in good standing with the State Bar of California.
